Near Sab Pradu Reservoir in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Sikhiu area, archaeologists are looking into the discovery of old human remains and pottery fragments.
Preliminary results suggest the bones date back to the Iron Age, roughly 2, 500 to 1, 500 years ago.
A local farmer stumbled upon the bones while herding cattle on Monday, leading to the discovery.
Local authorities, including police, operational officials and save teams, inspected the page and found bone fragments and scattered tooth pieces at a level of 80-100cm on Tuesday morning. Additionally, broken pottery fragments were discovered scattered throughout the region.
A team of archaeologists and FAD officials led a team led by Wannapong Palakawong Na Ayudhaya, an archaeologist from the 10th Regional Office of the Fine Arts Department ( FAD ) in Nakhon Ratchasima, yesterday to document and gather the artefacts.
He added that the pottery, which was created using a special black polishing technique, is of particular interest because it contains the mineral quartz, a rare find in old ceramics, which suggests the site belongs to the later ancient Iron Age.
In contrast, the crew found some seeds at the page, likely used as embellishments by old citizens, he said.
