Airports of Thailand ( AoT ) plans to upgrade Suvarnabhumi airport, aiming to make it one of the world’s top 50 by next year and top 20 by 2028, Kirati Kijmanawat, AoT director says.

Mr Kirati on Tuesday revealed that Suvarnabhumi aircraft is 58th in Skytrax’s World’s Best Airport positions for 2024, away from 68th next year.

He claimed that the airport’s services had improved and that satellite terminal 1 ( SAT-1 ) had been opened, which increased the airport’s capacity for passenger handling.

Mr. Kirati stated that the AoT’s goal is to place Suvarnabhumi on the top 50 countries in a year.

According to him, AoT managed to reduce the immigration process, speed up the immigration method, and increase 200 additional immigration police personnel to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

He even made a statement about the AoT’s programs to incorporate CT scanning technologies into bag checks and fit 80 automatic gates at the immigration control, which are scheduled for August.

Some 50 % of the airline’s current luggage devices are expected to be replaced by CT scanners within a month, Mr Kirati said, adding that the CT scanning may allow individuals to provide liquids, including drinks, on table.

He noted that over the previous year, the AoT has been making improvements to the service offered at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The regular passenger time going through the airport screening process has decreased from 50 to 37 hours. It is quicker than the international standard of 45 days, he said.

But, Mr Kirati said the government aims to reduce the procedure length to 30 days.

One of the biggest issues facing people at Suvarnabhumi right now is, in his opinion, congestion at the airport check-in counters.

Additionally, the AoT’s East Expansion job, which will increase over 60, 000 passenger seats, will be faster to ease airport congestion.

By 2028, the expanded storage is anticipated to get operational.
