In order to improve Thailand’s reputation and place it at Tier 1 on the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons ( TIP ) ranking, the government has opened the Thailand Victim Identification and Referral Center in Don Muang district.
During the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Assistant Commissioner-General and Acting Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police (RTP ) Pol Lt Gen Prachuap Wongsuk stated that the Thai government has put a national emphasis on preventing and reprimanding human trafficking.
The center is an illustration of this, according to Pol Lt Gen Prachuap.
The 2022 National Referral Mechanism, which is a guide for the operation of organizations, was used to help the co-operation, sharing information, providing request assistance and protection for victims of human smuggling and forced labor, or accessing major assistance services in accordance with human rights principles and international regulations.
The RTP, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, and the Ministry of Labour may simultaneously run and manage the service.
The center is a momentary house, according to Pol Lt Gen Prachuap.
The service has bedding, individual male and female toilets and bath areas with toiletries, spaces for dining and washing, a simple security system, and counseling rooms.
The government’s “important effort to prevent and stop human trafficking” is highlighted by the facility, which will also help foster greater confidence among different nations and international organizations in Thailand’s efforts to prevent and eliminate human trafficking, he said.
According to him,” The Thai government has great motives to increase its human trafficking rating from the latest Level 2 to Tier 1 [in the US TIP report].”
Additionally, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Chon Buri provinces may have the opportunity to host new Witness Identification and Referral Centers.
