Anti-gambling task force nets 3,863 arrests during Euro 2024

Law enforcement agents have closed more than 200 sites in the country that catered to Euro 2024 football-related playing with 2.4 billion bant in flow, according to police.

As the Euro 2024 soccer games draw to a close on Sunday, police released the information after cracking down on both online and off-line playing.

The onslaught began on June 14, the same day that the Euro 2024 sports championships started, and ended on Thursday, Pol Lt Gen Akradet Pimolsri, associate federal police commander, said.

He said a task force was formed on June 14 to tackle soccer betting cases, and it managed to catch 3, 863 individuals suspected of gambling-related crimes.

Authorities said a complete of 3, 017 offenders were caught at gambling caves, including 50 reported gamblers and 2, 944 reported players.

A total of 224 native gambling sites were also closed, with 846 offenders arrested. According to the authorities, 145 people ran the blogs, and 701 others were players.

The sites combined had 2.4 billion ringgit of gambling money in circulation, authorities said.
