Anti-Corruption Commission eyes more asset disclosure

The National Anti- Corruption Commission ( NACC ) is looking to propose that officials from the Revenue Department, Excise Department, and Royal Thai Police (RTP ) be required to report their assets in the interests of enhanced transparency.

President of the Senate, Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, presided over today’s lecture to create awareness of the procedure and the importance of reporting assets and liabilities among legislature’s members as part of an effort to make legislators ‘ affairs more visible.

The conference was attended by the second evil president of the Senate, Supachai Somcharoen, chair of the NACC, Pol Gen Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, assistant director- general of King Prajadhipok’s Institute, Issara Sereewatthanawut, and political employees.

According to Mr. Issara, the conference was intended to help people become aware of the importance of officials carrying out their duties with integrity and transparency, as well as the procedure and the importance of asset and liability declarations.

Members of parliament are required to make their assets and obligations public, according to Mr. Pornpetch. Any inaction may lead to the violating part being charged criminally.

” Public reporting of goods is, therefore, like an act of demonstrating your accountability to prove you are not using your power to gain yourself”, said Mr Pornpetch.

In order to avoid being questioned about corruption, Pol Gen Watcharapol said the NACC also needs to monitor the activities of the property because they could be converted into a different kind of asset because they also needed to verify the accuracy and presence of the assets and liabilities.

The NACC chairman added that his organization will work with the Revenue Department, Excise Department, and RTP to change the regulations so that those with high levels of corruption, such as those with the Revenue Department, are required to report their assets.
