SINGAPORE: The particular salaries of pre-school teachers are being reviewed, Minister for Social and Family Advancement Masagos Zulkifli stated on Monday (Aug 29).
“We are at the stage of looking at them, particularly concentrating right now on the point operators, ” Mr Masagos said.
While he did not provide details, revised salaries have to be “competitive enough to retain the talent plus attract new talent into the sector”, this individual said.
The ministry — which oversees the particular pre-school sector beneath the Early Childhood Growth Agency (ECDA) — hopes to make a good announcement “as shortly as we can”, mentioned Mr Masagos.
“It is an issue of necessity that reviews of wages and expectations are created and we are doing just that, ” he mentioned on the sidelines of the visit to a pre-school ahead of Teachers’ Day time which falls on Sep 2 .
“If we tend not to adjust according to the occasions and needs from the industry, we will lose the talents to other industries. ”
There are five point operators listed on the ECDA website: PCF Sparkletots Preschool, My 1st Skool, My Entire world Preschool, School4Kidz and E-Bridge Pre-school.
While remuneration satisfaction is an region that is “poorly scored” in general by individuals, salaries have to be viewed objectively, he stated. Pay has to be commensurate with the work carried out, he added. The pre-school sector has to continue to be attractive, he added.
His assurance that salaries are being checked out comes after a recent statement with the Ministry of Education (MOE) that the teachers, allied educators and MOE pre-school educators will get a salary increase of 5 per cent in order to 10 per cent as a result of Oct 1 .
Ms Julie Chang, centre director of private pre-school operator Understanding Kidz@Jubilee Square which in turn Mr Masagos discovered, said the lecturers will be happy that will salaries in their community are being reviewed.
