Airport shops, offices make way for new passenger facilities

At Suvarnabhumi and Phuket airports, Airports of Thailand ( AoT ) has taken back some areas that were previously used by businesses and government agencies, and these areas will now be used to provide better amenities to travelers.

AoT had repossessed 1, 907 square meters of space in the main plaza and SAT-1 buildings at Suvarnabhumi airport, according to Chief Executive Kirati Kitmanawat, and 491 square meters in the international traveler terminal at Paradise airport.

Thee places were originally used by Thai Airways International, King Power, emigration officers and for workplaces for customs and income officials.

Within two weeks these areas would offer guests as, for example, waiting areas or kids ‘s&nbsp, parks, Mr Kirati said.

There were no places where departing passengers had unwind after passing the search process at Suvarnabhumi Airport. He claimed that AoT had received complaints about travelers having to sit on the ground because the airport was full of stores.

He claimed that lost rent had value AoT about 90 million baht per month.
