SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency ( NEA ) conducted a survey andnbsp this year and found that about 72 % of Singaporean households recycle.
This is an improvement over the 64 % found in a comparable study conducted in 2021. & nbsp, 2, 180 respondents participated in the most recent survey on household recycling, which was conducted by NEA from April to June 2023.
A higher percentage of respondents were aware of common items that can be placed in recycling bins and chutes, according to the data released by NEA on Thursday( Sep 14 ) a & nbsp.
For instance, compared to 71 % in 2021, 89 % of respondents were aware that a rinsed shampoo or detergent bottle can be recycled.
A higher percentage of respondents were even aware of common things like tissue paper, foam boxes, and soft toys that cannot be placed in recycling bins and chutes.
However, there was a decrease in awareness that small electric appliances, soiled cheap food containers, and unwanted fruit or vegetable parts cannot be thrown into recycling bins or chutes, according to NEA.
” Pollution occurs when food and liquid waste, as well as items that cannot be recycled, are dumped into blue recycling bins or ladders.”

Singapore wants to raise its entire recycling level to 70 % by 2030 as part of its Zero Waste Masterplan and Singapore Green Plan.
The overall recycling rate increased from 55 % in 2021 & nbsp to 57 % and 52 % in 2020.
