About 200 people evacuated in west Indonesia after 6.1-magnitude earthquake

JAKARTA: About 200 people evacuated to higher ground after an earthquake associated with magnitude 6. one struck islands in western Indonesia on Sunday (Sep 11), causing some real estate damage, the country’s disaster mitigation company BNPB said.

The tremble in the Mentawai Islands west of Sumatra struck at a depth of 27km plus was followed by among magnitude 5. a few in the same area, authorities said. There is no danger of the tsunami.

Anyone was injured in the head by falling wood, and a college and health centre were among attributes slightly damaged, the particular disaster agency stated.

Mentawai citizen Nurjuli Hasanah told Reuters the quake felt strong and shook her wooden house. “Some of (the residents) continue to be in an evacuation protection and some have gone back home, ” the girl said.
