Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced on Tuesday that she had not already received more information about how her father, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, was treated while he was incarcerated at Police General Hospital.

She made reference to an earlier meeting where she claimed details were being sought from the Thai Medical Council, which had been looking into the event.

She insisted, however, that Thaksin had received health care at the time as previously claimed. She claimed that” He even had surgeries ] while he was here.

On June 13, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions will interview Ms. Paetongtarn among those slated to be questioned about her father’s health care. Thaksin won’t show up, but he will make a written assessment, according to his attorney.

After rejecting a complaint from a former MP asking for an inspection because he was not a directly impacted group, the courtroom has now taken it upon itself to determine whether Thaksin’s prison sentence was properly carried out.

Ms. Paetongtarn dissuaded rumors that the event is a part of a government-wide social pact.

She said that Thaksin, who is 75 years older, is recovering from health issues little more slowly. ” But, it is all right. Our community has endured a lot. What we can do is stand up for what we believe in.”

However, public health secretary Somsak Thepsutin has refuted claims that he used his position as a unique chairman of the medical committee to obstruct an ethics investigation into the doctors who provided Thaksin’s care. A review is expected to be released by the government on Thursday.

The Thai Pakdee Party’s president, Dr. Warong Detkitvikrom, previously claimed that Mr. Somsak might have used his power to obstruct the outcomes.

Mr. Somsak claimed that he generally supported the council’s conclusions and that he couldn’t persuade all 72 members of its board to cast a ballot in a certain way.

On social media, Jatuporn Prompan, the head of the militant organization Women’s Unity Group, reported that two of the specialists at the officers hospital might have their medical licenses suspended.

Five additional specialists from the changes and police hospitals will also be under investigation, he added, and they could experience harsher penalties as well.

After returning to Thailand in August 2023, Thaksin, 75, received an eight-year jail sentence that was later reduced to a year by a royal forgive. He was not imprisoned for even one day, and after six months, he was ready for pardon.

The Department of Corrections allowed him to maintain his stay in the hospital for 180 days because his life was threatened by the circumstances in incarceration. Residents are officially permitted to get treatment outside of prison for 120 days.

A parliamentary committee was informed in November that Thaksin had covered all expenses for his six-month remain, including a VIP room on the patient’s 14th floor, which cost 8,500 baht per night.
