Philippine coast guard says China ship conducting illegal survey within exclusive economic zone

A Chinese research ship that the Philippines claimed was conducting unlawful marine clinical research activities within the government’s special economic zone has been escorted and escorted by the country using a coast guard ship and an aircraft.

Around 92 nautical miles off the northern Ilocos coast of the Philippines, the Chinese Research Vessel ( CRV ) Tan Suo 3 was discovered entering the nation’s EEZ on May 1st, according to the PCG in a statement on Monday.

Their unusual movements were deemed to be contrary to the Philippines ‘ sovereignty and a sign of sea scientific research activities.

It claimed that it had launched a seafaring legislation enforcement operation to challenge the Chinese ship’s position and that it had prevented the ship from continuing its “unlawful routines.”

The PCG reported witnessing a guarded deep-sea submarine, the Shenhai Yongshi or Deep-Sea Warrior, that the Chinese warship had taken.

The submarine can generally be used for deep-sea exploration and scientific missions, according to the PCG, and can dive up to 4,500 meters.

It added that it had seen a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat that had recovered a piece of equipment that was unidentified and yellow and likely related to marine research.

The People’s Republic of China is conducting unlawful sea clinical research activities within the Philippines ‘ exclusive economic zone, the PCG said.” These behavior by the CRV serve as distinct proof that the country is not able to carry out such actions in this area,” the PCG said.

A request for comment was not immediately addressed by the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
