Very heavy traffic expected at land checkpoints during Vesak Day long weekend

During the upcoming Vesak Day long weekend, travelers may anticipate very heavy visitors at Singapore-Malaysia area gates.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ( ICA ) reported that traffic will be high between May 8 and May 13 at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints as Vesak Day falls on May 12 this year.

Travelers should anticipate long waiting periods to pass immigration, according to an ICA travel advisory issued on May 5.

The cross-border vehicle service could be used to prevent congestion for those who still need to travel during this busiest time, it added.

Over 2.4 million people crossed the land checkpoints last month over the Good Friday long trip, with a top of more than 555, 000 passing on April 17 in a single day.

According to Malaysian traffic tailback, those who drove off had to rush for up to three hours for immigration certification, according to ICA.

We ask that travelers understand how to engage with ICA officers, abide by traffic regulations, and uphold street control, it continued.

Harsh action will be taken against those who disobey soldiers ‘ orders and committed crimes, it said.
