According to Red Dot United’s ( RDU) secretary-general Ravi Philemon on Thursday ( May 1 ), the People’s Action Party ( PAP ) must answer why it “removed” previous Nee Soon GRC MPs.
Simply Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam is running for president in this year’s GRC vote. He is the voice of the PAP stone for Nee Immediately, leading four new eyes: Ms. Goh Hanyan, Dr. Syed Harun Alhabsyi, Mr. Jackson Lam, and Ms. Lee Hui Ying.
Three of the five PAP MPs who served in Nee Quickly GRC between 2020 and 2025 do not intend to run for office in the upcoming general vote.
In addition, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, the Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, made an announcement in April to the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC, which the PAP won in a walkover on Nomination Day.
Mr. Philemon claimed that Mr. Shanmugam “must explain” to Miss Quickly residents why Assoc Prof. Faishal, a “well-liked MP in the area,” had “parachuted into another constituency.”
On the last day of net before prospects close on Cooling-off Day, Mr. Philemon, who spoke to reporters on the outside of RDU’s mentoring at Block 925 Yishun Central, noted that” data” had shown Mr. Ng to be the “most hard MP” in parliament.
The two-term Nee Quickly MP had previously cited community factors in his decision to leave politics, claiming that the position had caused him to miss” a lot of significant milestones” in the lives of his daughters.
Everyone ought to have the freedom to leave whenever they choose. Mr. Philemon remarked that people support is challenging.
He continued,” I think Mr. Shanmugam could have persuaded him to be on,” referring to Mr. Ng.
The RDU key also questioned Mr. Ng’s and several other outgoing MPs ‘ commitments to continue providing their assistance and support to the approaching MPs.
He questioned why they would continue to serve even after their departure, saying,” It doesn’t put up.”
UNKNOWN TO Citizens
Lee Bee Wah, a previous Nee Quickly MP who served the district between 2011 and 2020, made remarks against Mr. Philemon and his team. Ms. Lee had claimed that the residents of the RDU’s slate for Nee Quickly were unaware of the five candidates running for office on Tuesday at a PAP protest.
Mr. Philemon responded to this by saying,” Perhaps the PAP in Nee Quickly GRC knows that there are four heads around besides Mr. Shanmugam’s that the Nee Quickly residents do not know.”
He claimed that he was not unfamiliar with the area and that Mr. Shanmugam had stated to him,” You are not acquainted with Nee Shortly.”
Mr.  , Philemon, gathering president David Foo, Dr. Syed Alwi Ahmad, Mr. Pang Heng Chuan, and Ms. Sharon Lin make up the RDU roster.
Mr. Philemon pointed out that Ms. Lin had lived in Nee Soon all her life and was therefore acquainted with the people ‘ issues.
He argued that the PAP’s lineup of fresh eyes was at best “unknown.”
Beyond that, according to Mr. Philemon, “lingering questions” were still unanswered about the candidates, citing Dr. Syed Harun’s decision to run despite having just resigned from his position as a Nominated MP ( NMP ).
Mr. Philemon inquired why Dr. Syed Harun did not make the same decision as Mr. Raj Thomas, another NMP who had resigned in the same time, when he said he had first move the ground and that it was no longer his turn to challenge.
He questioned whether Dr. Syed Harun’s decision to run for office was “principled,” even if it had been “legally best.”
Additionally, Mr. Philemon quickly responded to remarks made by PAP officials this week.
At the midday election protest on Monday, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had stated that choosing to support the opposition would mean weakening the PAP authorities at a time when Singapore was facing significant challenges.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung also stated on Wednesday that for Singapore to have a successful management program, there must be a powerful ruling party and a constructive, but no powerful, opposition presence to give checks and balances.
Mr. Philemon responded to both statements by saying that” the PAP is not going to lose its power immediately.” The lot will still be in the legislature.
However, the problem we must question is: Is a weaker PAP with a majority of the members in congress at their disposal? Does it benefit citizens in any way?
NEE SOON Things
Mr. Philemon added that while Mr. Shanmugam and his rival Mr. Shanmugam were on the campaign trail, PAP individuals often showed up with flyers in areas where the RDU was interacting with voters.
” It’s funny, “he said”. That appears to be the PAP’s approach to seeing where we are on the ground. They are perched on top of the floor with eyes and ears.
In terms of RDU, Mr. Philemon claimed that “hard labor was their” simply course of action.
The party chief said RDU individuals were determined to keep walking the floor regardless of whether they win or lose the vote.
Before the upcoming election, the party may make an effort to visit “every stop” and “every resident.” He acknowledged that the group had only conducted door-to-door interviews this time because Nee Immediately was a “very big” voter, and it was impossible to “meet each and every voter.”
” Miss Soon voters will be promised that because Nee Soon matters,” he said.
When asked what he thought of RDU’s possibilities on May 3, Mr. Philemon responded that he was “absolutely comfortable.”
While his team is “formidable,” RDU has often “punched above our fat,” he said, likening their opponent to David “against PAP’s” Goliath.
