GE2025: Workers’ Party zeroes in on Gan Kim Yong; calls on Punggol GRC voters to ‘send strong message to PAP’

In rally speeches on Monday ( Apr 28 ), the Workers ‘ Party ( WP ) attacked Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Senior Minister of State Janil Puthucheary, with WP chief Pritam Singh telling Punggol GRC voters to” send a strong message” to the People’s Action Party ( PAP ). &nbsp,

In a number of issues, including the abandoned Income-Allianz deal and the alleged “parachuting” of applicants into Group Representation Constituencies, Mr. Singh and his Punggol GRC candidates criticised the ruling party at the WP’s second rally in the week leading up to the May 3 election. &nbsp,

In the PAP’s Punggol GRC granite, Mr. Gan and Dr. Janil, who is Top Minister of State for Health and Digital Development and Information, are both listed.

According to Mr. Singh, who was the second-last speech of the night, their contribution to this General Election was” important” according to ever-changing political boundaries. &nbsp,

” These modifications may harm the Workers ‘ Party’s ability to create a more equal political system.” Therefore, Punggol, you can take a powerful message to the PAP,” he said. You can alter some political boundaries every time, but don’t chaos with Punggol.

At a PAP rally last Saturday, Mr. Gan said he would talk to his” good friend” Lawrence Wong, the prime minister and finance minister, to increase funding for Punggol’s facilities, and he also made a number of insults throughout the day. &nbsp,

Mr. Singh expressed regret to Punggol, but he could not claim that the Prime Minister and I were companions.

But do I have to be his companion for Punggol to receive tax cash? No, “he added”. As a Singaporean, I anticipate a good distribution of tax dollars to all of our citizens. Additionally, the civil service will treat jobs and funds pretty. ” &nbsp,

Mr. Singh even made a comment regarding Mr. Gan’s inability to be elected to the PAP’s Central Executive Committee in November 2024. &nbsp,

He claimed that this was “very unusual” for a deputy prime minister. Does he play such a significant role in the PM’s programs, if necessary? You mean the PM doesn’t have anyone else in his case who can discuss tariffs with the US? ” &nbsp,

He added that if Mr. Gan were to win the election, he would be a “one-term MP,” noting that Mr. Gan, 66, was older than the 64-year-old DPM Heng Swee Keat. &nbsp,

Mr Alia Mattar, a WP fresh mouth and Punggol GRC member, also made reference to Mr. Gan’s” good friend” comment earlier in the night as part of an argument against how important discussions in Singapore take place “inside finished doors”

At a rally on Saturday, her Punggol GRC teammate Alexis Dang, who is also a new face, then referred to Minister of State for Social and Family Development and Home Affairs Sun Xueling, who is also a candidate for the PAP’s Punggol GRC slate, saying” we do not need strangers to come to Punggol… find out what’s on your mind.” &nbsp,

Ms. Dang responded,” May I ask, does she also mention DPM Gan Kim Yong? Or is he exempt because he is close friends with former prime minister Lawrence Wong? ” &nbsp,

Ms. Dang claimed that Mr. Gan and Ms. Sun’s statements at the Saturday rally “represent a troubling reality about our politics today.” &nbsp,

Do we want this kind of leadership, or something else? Is this the political culture that we want to impart to our children, where connections are important rather than fairness? ” &nbsp,

Mr. Gan was a late addition to the PAP’s Punggol GRC team; he had been the party’s initial candidate for the Chua Chu Kang GRC slate as the anchor minister, but he showed up at the Punggol GRC nomination center on Nomination Day.

Ms. Dang described how Mr. Heng had “parachuted” into the East Coast GRC in the 2020 General Election, which she said was a move, making it difficult for voters to choose between keeping a future prime minister and a more balanced politics. &nbsp,

Mr. Heng was in charge of succeeding Lee Hsien Loong, who was then prime minister. However, he left in April 2021, citing the need for a younger leader with a “longer runway” to take over.

Again, they are pulling the same stunts in Punggol,” said Ms. Dang,” forcing you into a corner.

Is a more balanced parliament really that wrong? Make no mistake: If we allow this tactic to succeed once more, it will be used at the expense of all Singaporeans. ” &nbsp,
