Malaysia’s Islamic party distances itself from leaders’ comments on Singapore election, but says reaction ‘exaggerated’

Singapore: The Islamic party of Malaysia announced on Monday ( Apr 28 ) that the recent comments made on Singapore’s election by two of its leaders were “personal views” and did not reflect the party’s official position.

But, it added that Singapore’s response to the content was “exaggerated.”

After officials in Singapore ordered Meta to block access to the content, alleging there had been attempts by immigrants to influence the General Election, Facebook customers in Singapore can no longer access them. &nbsp,

Iskandar Abdul Samad, the national treasurer of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia ( PAS ), and Mohamed Sukri Omar, the youth leader of PAS Selangor, reposted Mr. Zulfikar’s post.

One of the two papers named many Malay opposition individuals running for GE2025, which were also published in the PAS publication, even highlighting their educational and professional backgrounds, was published in two other articles. The other criticized Singapore’s cover plans, citing immigration.

In a press release on Monday, PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan said:” It must be stressed that the articles are in no way reflected PAS ‘ official policy or position as a political party, regardless of whether they relate to Singapore as a country or its ongoing operations.

According to the allegations,” PAS believes that both people were simply expressing their private thoughts without any purpose of influencing the results of the May 3 election.”

Given the group’s close working relationships with the Singapore authorities, Mr. Takiyuddin said that while PAS acknowledges Singapore’s issues regarding the situation, it likewise believes that Singapore’s response was “much inflated and unilateral.” &nbsp,

PAS noted that the two group leaders have refuted the claims of foreign meddling.

It added that” PAS’s practice of maintaining proper bilateral relations as the genuine channel for conveying any views on matters of common interest, including with the Singapore government,”” clearly demonstrated that these allegations were false or misleading.”
