In order to facilitate the tariff negotiations with the United States, the opposition People’s Party ( PP ) is urging the government to drop the charges against American academic Paul Chambers.

The delayed tariff negotiations are linked to US worries about national security, according to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He has also taken note of the Thai cases involving” some Americans,” which might be a remark on Mr. Chambers ‘ lese-majeste and machine murder charges.

This month, Mr. Chambers, a teacher and special adviser on foreign affairs at Phitsanulok’s Naresuan University, was charged.

” I thank Mr. Thaksin for speaking on the subject, but it’s unfortunate that he’s not a member of the government or the negotiation staff,” said Sirikanya Tansakun, an MP and PP deputy president, adding that the government should verify Mr. Thaksin’s promises for the general public.

She claimed that dropping Mr. Chambers ‘ fees may help in the start of the US tariffs negotiations. Despite repeated warnings and tax conversations, Ms. Sirikanya even criticized the government for ignoring its own warnings, arguing that it had acted unfairly.

She urged the internet to hit the state for a full disclosure of the nature of Thaksin’s statements.

Ms. Sirikanya questioned whether Thaksin’s reported relationships to figures near to US President Donald Trump could aid in the launch of discussions, but that official government-to-government negotiations may continue to be the most successful course of action.

The MP also made it clear that the Uyghur imprisonment may present a threat to the talks over the US-Thailand trade agreement, citing that this is a delicate issue that could have an impact on Thailand’s relations with China.
