On the day of its 80th anniversary, Democratic Party chief Chalermchai Sri-on emphasized the need for the party to accept change.

Mr. Chalermchai, who likewise serves as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, stated at the party’s annual general meeting on Saturday that the group is currently in serious need of 25 MP tickets.

The group has overcome some obstacles in its nearly 80 times. It has experienced both highs and lows, which is typical for politicians.

But, he said, the constant damage of MP seats over the past 10 to 15 years is a sign of both a crisis and a change in the social context.

” We must take real.” What we need to do next is find the courage to shift while upholding our values and principles, Chalermchai said.

He claimed in a recounting of his 2019 election loss that he was proud to have won the election while still standing up for clear politics despite receiving little public support.

He even defended the party’s choice to add the state, arguing that it was made in the interests of both the country and the general public.

He claimed that his decision to join the government over the past seven decades strictly complied with party rules and wasn’t motivated by personal goals.

Mr. Chalermchai emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for the party’s younger members, and he hoped more young people may visit and work alongside them.

He said the Democrat Party had carefully consider its position after debate among party executives and MPs regarding the leisure complex costs, which appears to be dividing the state alliance pushing it.

He also pledged to work closely with party members to resurrect the Democrats ‘ previous electoral success, showing unwavering resolve.

The Democratic Party’s “utmost and strongest goal is to return strong,” he said.

Jurin Laksanawisit resigned as party chief in December 2023 after the party won less than half the seats it had previously won in the May 14 primaries, in which case the party won less than half the seats it had previously won.

Additionally, the party’s leadership election revealed a significant split, which caused some members to quit after Abhisit Vejjajiva, a previous group leader, quit.

During the party’s annual general meeting on Saturday, Janejira Rattanapian was appointed its new representative.

An 11-member council tasked with vetteing election candidates running under the group’s banner was also chosen for the meeting.
