ENGAGING COMMUNITIES AND SAFEGUARDS IN PLACE
It is frequently more difficult to be a majority in a multiracial and multireligious nation like Singapore, Mr. Wong said.
” We are aware of that. Therefore, we must create a bigger effort to involve all the various neighborhoods,” he said.
He continued,” MPs often speak with and address concerns that arise in various areas, including in parliament.”
When asked whether the affair had an impact on relationships between ethnic parties, particularly in areas like Tampines with larger Malay-Muslim areas, Mr. Wong said the president’s swift motion was motivated by a dedication to preserving cultural harmony rather than social concerns.
” We are taking action precisely because we are concerned about the impact that we are worried about, not the effects of the election, but concerned about the effects on our cultural harmony.”
Mr. Wong reiterated that the press conference was” not a political” event, saying,” I’m not here to discuss my concerns about the party. I’m around to discuss my worries for Singapore and our nation.
He continued, noting that so far social events have responded favorably. He said,” It seems like everyone is in agreement.”
His fears may be addressed, Mr. Wong said, if all parties agreed and rejected foreign interference in the coming days, not just in words but in deeds.
” And we can maintain to have our election campaign, Singaporeans you chose, and we can do it knowing that our unity or cooperation won’t be hampered.”
When asked whether other organizations, such as foreign-run websites, could also have an impact on immigrants, Mr. Wong said it was Singaporeans who had to determine the outcome of the election.
He claimed that safeguards are in place to maintain this.
It is important to be very clear when writing about votes, not that foreigners can. European journalists are permitted to make election reports on a regular basis.
However, it crosses the line when immigrants take a place on a matter or a member and advocate for one over the other, particularly when it’s about race and religion and you start mingling race and religion with politicians. ”  ,
