GE2025: Rematch at Bukit Panjang SMC between PAP’s Liang Eng Hwa and SDP’s Paul Tambyah

In Bukit Panjang SMC, the People’s Action Party’s ( PAP ) Liang Eng Hwa and the Singapore Democratic Party’s ( SDP ) Paul Tambyah will square off in the upcoming elections.

On Election Day ( April 23 ), both men received confirmation that they were candidates for the single chair hospital, resuming the race for 2020.

With 53.73 percent of the ballot, Mr. Liang clung to Prof. Tambyah that time. The SMC vote was the closest to the poll, overall.

Before relocating to Bukit Panjang SMC, Mr. Liang, a controlling director at DBS, served as an MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC from 2006 to 2020.

Prof. Tambyah has served as SDP’s president since 2017 and is a top specialist in viral diseases at the National University Hospital.

On Wednesday morning, both candidates arrived at the nomination center at Methodist Girls ‘ School about five minutes apart from one another. They quickly exchanged greetings from across the street.

Eventually, Mr. Liang thanked the residents of the constituency for the chance to offer them for the past five years during his balcony speech following his candidacy being confirmed.

His speech was greeted with enthusiastic applause and chants of” PAP! PAP”! from white-clad students marching in the rally circle.

Prof. Tambyah, his rival, is contesting the chair, who wrote to supporters,” Bless you to the 15, 576 of you who voted for us the next day. We only need a small number more.

Prof. Tambyah urged people to “vote for&nbsp, a Singapore where everyone can thrive,” and urged them to do so.

After his speech, SDP followers who brought a&nbsp and the guitar broke out in music.

After the election hearing, Prof. Tambyah was questioned about facing off against Mr. Liang in a separate interview.

He responded that there has always been a “friendly battle” and that Mr. Liang has shown utmost gentlemanliness in our relationships. &nbsp,

He continued,” It’s not personal. I’m not in any relationship with him. Two distinct ideologies, two distinct perspectives on Singapore are involved.

Singaporeans did cast their ballots on May 3rd for the country’s 14th General Election.
