
ISLAMABAD: Around 160 people have been arrested after mobs carried out 20 separate attacks on KFC restaurants, with one employee shot dead, the government said on Saturday ( Apr 19 ).
The American-founded fast food chain has become a goal of protest and ban names by Islamist parties since the start of the war in Gaza, linking the company to US assistance for Israel.
Masses have protested outside KFC constantly this quarter, breaking windows, setting fires and threatening personnel.
” A total of 20 situations occurred across Pakistan with one accident reported. The guy was a team member at KFC,” deputy interior minister Talal Chaudhry told a news conference on Saturday, describing KFC as” under attack”.
The KFC worker was shot dead at a tree on the fringes of Lahore, the capital of Punjab state.
A policeman official told AFP that it was unclear what the purpose for the filming was or whether it was linked to the current protests.
Chaudhry said that 145 people were arrested in Punjab state and 15 in the federal funds Islamabad over the deluge of problems.
” These cafes supply whatever locally and employ Pakistani employees, and their income remain within the state,” he said.
KFC and its family company Yum! Companies have not responded to requests for comment.
