Law change sees ‘Boss’ dodge cocaine abuse charge

Vorayuth: Faces one last charge
Vorayuth: Faces one final charge

The charge associated with cocaine abuse delivered against Red Half truths heir Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya during the high-profile hit-and-run case in 2012 has now lapsed due to the new narcotics legislation which alters the statute of restrictions for some offences, Workplace of the Attorney General (OAG) spokesman Prayuth Petchkhun said recently.

Mister Prayuth said Mister Vorayuth had been charged in August 2020 with cocaine mistreatment in addition to reckless generating causing death with a panel of prosecutors chaired by Itthiporn Kaewthip, director-general from the Office of Felony Prosecution. Mr Prayuth was the panel’s admin.

A court warrant was then issued pertaining to his arrest below Section 58 of the earlier Narcotics Work of 1979 which usually prohibited the use of crack. Offenders were then liable to a prison term of six months to three years and the statute of restrictions was 10 years, which may have been Sept 3 or more, 2022 for Mr Vorayuth.

But when the new narcotics law took impact in Dec 9 last year, the Drugs Act of 1979 was cancelled. Under Section 162 from the new law, which also prohibits the usage of cocaine, a violator is liable to a jail term of up to 12 months and the statute associated with limitations is five years.

The only remaining cost against him can be reckless driving causing death, which has a penalty of up to 10 years in jail and has a 15-year law of limitations.
