No minister can concentrate on political matters alone, he said on Tuesday ( Apr 15 ), and the public service should be the one in charge of developing effective policies, according to Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat.
At the annual Administrative Service Dinner, he said, “public service officers play a” critical” role in complementing the political leadership in moving the country forward. It is crucial to maintain a” trust relationship.”
The great trust and confidence we have in the government and the public service, as well as our shared goal of ensuring a better potential for Singapore, for Singaporeans, remain unchanged, according to Mr. Heng.
In his speech, Mr. Heng shared anecdotes from his time working in the public support and distilled a number of lessons learned, one of which was to uphold the relationship of trust between political leadership and the public assistance.
Before joining elections in 2011, Mr. Heng was the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s managing director.  ,
He also served as the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s ( MTI ) permanent secretary between 2001 and 2005 as well as founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s principal private secretary between 1997 and 2000.
