In the upcoming General Election, West Coast-Jurong West GRC Minister for National Development Desmond Lee will lead the People’s Action Party ( PAP ) team in Singapore.
The party announced on Tuesday ( Apr 15 ) that the five-member slate would include two first-time candidates: orthopaedic surgeon Hamid Razak, 39, and Cassandra Lee, 33.
They will add former West Coast GRC MP Ang Wei Neng and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Shawn Huang, whose Taman Jurong department was transferred from Jurong GRC under the new political image.  ,
The group will not include MPs Foo Mee Har, who entered elections in 2011 and led the Ayer Rajah-Gek Poh hospital, and Rachel Ong, who made her election debut in 2020 and oversaw the Telok Blangah section. Whether either will move down or been shifted to various political parties is a mystery.
S Iswaran, an MP in the GRC since 1997 and a former travel secretary, resigned in January of last year after being accused of corruption. He later admitted lesser costs of obtaining gifts, was given a 12-month jail term in October, and is currently awaiting home detention.
Mr. Lee stated that the team has been working with occupants and volunteers to increase the group through social and mentoring programs, especially for seniors, jobseekers, and youth, at the group’s West Coast tree office on Tuesday.
He expressed his gratitude to all of our citizens and partners for their faith and confidence in us over the past few years and for supporting these crucial efforts.
In order to utilize our plans and carry out the programs we have started over the past few years, the West Coast-Jurong West GRC team is looking for people ‘ continued support in the upcoming election, he added.
The GRC, which was formerly known as West Coast, was the most intensely contested district in the 2020 General Election. The Progress Singapore Party ( PSP), which secured two Non-Constituency MP (NCMP ) seats for Mr. Leong Mun Wai and Ms. Hazel Poa, received 51.19 % of the vote, which the PAP won.
This time, the PSP has confirmed that it will compete in the GRC.
Following the most recent political chart review, the hospital has undergone considerable boundary changes. It now includes portions of Jurong West and Taman Jurong, giving it its new title, West Coast-Jurong West GRC. There are now 158,581 voters, up from the public.
The easternmost regions of the original GRC, including Harbourfront and Sentosa, were moved to Radin Mas SMC, while Dover and some of Telok Blangah were relocated to Tanjong Pagar GRC to keep voter-to-MP numbers.
