The Road Safety Operation Centre ( RSOC ) has urged law enforcement to rigorously enforce traffic laws and develop proactive strategies to ensure road safety during Songkran.
In the past three days, motorcycles have been the primary cause of fatality figures, according to deputy interior minister permanent secretary Kajohn Srichavanotai, who stated on Monday that drunk driving and a failure to wear helmets had been the major causes of the majority of road accidents.
More drastic measures were urged by the RSOC, including setting up community gates to track risky behavior, and reminding drivers to wear safety equipment and avoid driving while intoxicated.
Authorities are also using mobile devices to take proactive steps, such as increasing patrols and preventing alcohol sales in Songkran event areas.
Also, local authorities are being asked to keep an eye on alcohol sales that are not permitted during legitimate hours. Additionally, Mr. Kajohn cautioned against selling alcohol as a result of a drunken driver’s report of an underage driver in a road mishap.
