SINGAPORE: The police have issued a warning about a resurgence of phishing scams that use the Land Transport Authority’s ( LTA ) OneMotoring platform.  ,
According to the Singapore Police Force ( SPF ) in a news release on Monday ( Apr 14), at least 37 cases have been reported since December 2024, with at least S$ 407, 000 ( US$ 309, 000 ) lost.  ,
The new cases involved patients who were allegedly informed by OneMotoring via text messages about unpaid bills.
The messages do include a link that may direct recipients to a phishing payment site that resembles OneMotoring. Therefore, they were prompted to key in their private information, credit or debit card information, and other sensitive information.
The victims just learned about the scam after finding illegal uses for credit or debit cards.  ,
The police claimed that the LTA’s messages on highway tax bills do not include pay links to the OneMotoring website or pay portals.  ,
The transportation power sends notifications about a car road tax expiration in three different forms: SMSes through the “gov.gov.au.” ” durant” writer recognition, e-letters deposited into the manager’s OneMotoring accounts that can only be accessed via Singpass password, or hardcopied letters sent to their listed address.
Individuals should always check the accuracy of the LTA information they are receiving through its website or line range, according to the authorities.
In less than three months, hacking scams posing as OneMotoring lost at least S$ 28 000 in September of last year.
In those circumstances, victims allegedly received emails from OneMotoring about their vehicles ‘ road tax or road license expiration.  ,
