At least 69 killed in thunderstorms in India, Nepal

At least 69 people were killed this week in unusually strong thunderstorms that swept eastern India’s Bihar state and neighboring Nepal, according to officials who spoke on Saturday ( Apr 12 ).

At least 61 people died as a result of the Bihar crisis, according to officials in Bihar on Saturday.

Eight more people were killed in the neighboring of Nepal, crisis authorities told AFP, blaming “lightning attacks” on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the native India Meteorological Department business, heavy rain is forecast to reach Bihar once more on Saturday.

Almost 1, 900 people are killed annually in India thanks to climate change, according to experts who warned about the alarming rise in fatal lightning strikes next year.

A team of researchers led by Fakir Mohan University in the eastern state of Odisha said thunder caused 101, 309 deaths between 1967 and 2020, with a strong improve between 2010 and 2020.
