In light of rumors that he would be running for the general election, Dr. Syed Harun, 39, a consultant psychiatrist at the Starfish Clinic of Psychiatry & Mental Wellness, resigned from his NMP position on February 14.
Some former NMPs worried that his resignation, along with that of another NMP, Raj Joshua Thomas, might have stung the House’s view that their participation in politics under the banner of political parties might undermine the idea of non-partisanship during their time there.  ,
In response to these questions, Mr. Shanmugam claimed that the Constitution “expressly allows” a former NMP to form a political party.
Beginning in March, Dr. Syed Harun and Mr. Shanmugam will be speaking at Nee Soon GRC community events.
