Malaysian arrested after Hat Yai gold shop robbed

According to police, think has a criminal history in Thailand and Malaysia.

SONGKHLA- On Wednesday, authorities detained a Indonesian male in connection with the armed robbery of about 7 million ringgit worth of gold jewelry from a Hat Yai store on Tuesday.

According to Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, head of the Central Investigation Bureau, the arrest was made at 5:30 p.m. at the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok’s Taling Chan city.

Beyond stating that the person had been taken to the Crime Suppression Division for more questioning, he provided no additional information.

On Wednesday night, the Songkhla Provincial Court issued a warrant of arrest for Yee Boon Long, 61, the suspect’s identity.

Tuesday morning at 11.55 am, the assault took place at the Thai Udom 2 silver store on Montri Road in Hat Yai.

The unmasked, armed man walked into the store, scared the staff away, and fleed with 138 baht ( approximately 2.1 kilogrammes ) of gold jewelry. He left on a motorcycle he afterward abandoned 300 meters away, carrying a shopping bag filled with the treasure.

Prior to this, Provincial Police Region 9 director Pol Lt Gen Piyawat Chalermsri stated that the suspect had a criminal history and used many brands. His Thai brand is Anucha Sae Yor, and he formerly served a jail sentence for robbing a golden store in Hat Yai in January 2017.

He was deported to Malaysia on September 22, 2023, and released from prison on September 22, 2023.

According to authorities, the suspect is also liable for a golden buy assault that occurred in Malaysia about 20 years earlier. The robber fled to Thailand after taking silver worth about 50 million ringgit.
