Inside Mandalay: BBC joins rescuers searching for earthquake dead in Myanmar

The country’s ruling military dictatorship claims there are almost 2, 900 people killed in the destructive earthquake that occurred last week.

The death toll is thought to be much higher, with some also ensnared in the rubble in the affected cities.

After the disaster, the ruling military dictatorship declared that it would not permit foreign journalists to enter the nation, making it difficult to report from there.

Yogita Limaye, a columnist from the BBC, traveled to Mandalay as the first foreign journalist to visit the country since the earthquake.
