After a 631-day pause in the development of the customer terminal at Narathiwat Airport, Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri is considering terminating his contract with CIS Joint Venture.  ,
According to Ms. Manaporn, the Department of Airports ( DoA ) contracted with the joint venture, consisting of China Railway No 10 Engineering Group and ISO Engineering Co Ltd, to construct the terminal and related infrastructure at Narathiwat Airport in tambon Khok Khian of the Muang district.
The project, which is worth$ 639.89 million baht, was set to be finished on January 16th, 2022 at the earliest opportunity. The deal was later extended because of severe flooding in soon 2024.
Despite this, improvement remained slow. The project had advanced by only 0.64 percent by February, leading to a 61 % overall delay.
On March 4, a conference with the company was held. The DoA requested that the job advance by at least 5 % per month for March and April. Failure to comply may lead to lease termination and the companies being placed on government contracts.
Ms. Manaporn claimed that while the overall project completion rate was 39 %, which meant it was nearly 61 % behind schedule, or equivalent to a 631 day delay, in March, work the construction advanced by just 0.5 % while the overall project completion rate was 39 %, which indicates it was nearly 61 % behind schedule.
She said the DoA has issued a proper notice and is monitoring the progress going forward this quarter.  ,
Additionally, Ms. Manaporn stated that she has mandated a thorough examination of the used construction elements.
To ensure that all components meet the required standards, the DoA has been instructed to work with job experts. In three weeks, a thorough review is required, and any irregularities must be corrected right away.
She reaffirmed her agency’s commitment to upholding stringent requirements for all projects involving public system, arguing that supervising engineers are required to carefully watch all progress.
China Railway No 10 was also the contractor for Myanmar’s new State Audit Office ( SAO ) building, which collapsed last Friday as a result of an earthquake.
