‘It’s really tough’: SMRT workers persevere round-the-clock despite morale dip from train disruptions

SINGAPORE: &nbsp, When coach problems occur, the confidence of SMRT’s road maintenance team&nbsp, takes a strike. &nbsp,

” Our first reaction is to perhaps feel a little demoralised, or even shaken because of the problem or the incident”, Mr Low Choon Keong, SMRT’s chairman of rolling property, told reporters during a media attend revealing over road maintenance.

The visit came in the midst of new high-profile problems, including a&nbsp, six-day company halt&nbsp, on the East-West Range between Jurong East and Buona Vista facilities last September. These situations affect the team physically but their urgent goal is to handle the issue and remedy it as soon as possible, Mr Low said. &nbsp,” After the correction, we will surely talk to employees or whoever needs assistance or further consultation … we may ensure that everybody’s culture and confidence will be taken care of”, he said. &nbsp,

” For each and every problem and learning time, we may distil out all these important lessons learned, and then we will increase from it”, he said. &nbsp,

Despite the tough work setting – from limited time to complete a task to harsh conditions – the maintenance staff remains committed. &nbsp,

” The existence of a maintenance staff in SMRT is difficult, it’s actually tough”, Mr Low quipped.

” We have to work within the constraints of the environment and do the task at hand, as well as be competent in handling the various machinery so that we can carry out our tasks efficiently” .&nbsp,

He hopes the public understands the walls and restrictions that make road maintenance particularly difficult. &nbsp,
