Myanmar attendance ‘uncertain’ at Bimstec Summit

Myanmar’s coup president’s involvement in the Bimstec ( Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation ) summit in Bangkok this week is questionable following a 7.7-magnitude disaster last year, according to network Thailand.

But, all leaders of the member states are also expected to attend, a Thai foreign department spokesperson told a typical presentation on Tuesday.

Junta main Min Aung Hlaing may also go electronically, the spokeswoman said. The devastating disaster struck Myanmar on March 28, even causing significant injury in Thailand.

The mountain of Bimstec is due to take place from Wednesday to Friday.

The gathering includes Thailand, Myanmar, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
