The state is intensifying efforts to restore global confidence in Thailand after Friday’s disaster, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said.

Speaking at the Thailand Investment and Expat Services Center ( TIESC ) opening ceremony at One Bangkok, Ms Paetongtarn on Monday addressed the international community regarding the collapse of the new State Audit Office ( SAO ) building during the earthquake.

She said the decline was due to technical problems affecting that specific building while reassuring that no other houses in Bangkok were at risk of collapsing as they adhered to earthquake-resistant requirements.

She underscored Thailand’s commitment to restoring its image and ensuring public trust, saying a detailed investigation into the site’s approval, design and construction materials is afoot.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, along with Industry Minister Akanat Promphan, will evaluate the program’s design elements. Tests have already been collected for analysis. The primary minister said preliminary findings are expected within two or three days.

However, Bangkok government Chadchart Sittipunt said that the position in the money had almost completely stabilised.

He said regular visitors had resumed throughout Bangkok, including major expressways and rail lines, except for minor gridlock near the site of the collapsed building in Chatuchak area and areas with cranes treatment operations in Bang Sue district.

He also said that creating checks in the area are continued, with over 13, 000 information received. Some cases involve minor roof cracks, while two properties have been deemed illegal, affecting nearly 2, 000 residents.

Temporary homes have been arranged for those in need, with corporate and government organizations assisting.

In another development, Italian-Thai Development PCL ( ITD), a stakeholder in the ITD-CREC joint venture, the contractor for the collapsed SAO building, issued a statement expressing “deep regret” over the incident.

The firm pledged total cooperation with government and payment for the families of the deceased and injured.

The ITD said it was assured that its other development initiatives would not be affected.

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit has not confirmed if the ITD may be blacklisted by the government but he did say that probable legal costs are being considered.
