Northwest of the city of Sagaing in northern Myanmar was the scene of the thin 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck in the early evening, followed shortly thereafter by a 6.7%-magnitude tremor.
Mandalay, the government’s second-largest city and home to more than 1.7 million people, saw the most extensive destruction as evidenced by the earthquake, which destroyed structures, broken bridge, and cracked roads across swathes of Myanmar.
The decision coup said in a speech on Saturday that at least 1, 002 people were killed and almost 2, 400 were hurt in Myanmar. In Bangkok, about 10 more fatalities have been confirmed.
On Friday, Junta main Min Aung Hlaing issued an unusually unique appeal for worldwide aid, praising the severity of the catastrophe.  ,
