Next year, roughly 1, 000 creatures were born or hatched at four of Singapore’s animals gardens, giving an additional boost to threatened species.
On Thursday ( Mar 27 ), Mandai Wildlife Group announced that a total of 998 newborns from 143 different species were being welcomed at Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders, and Bird Paradise.  ,
This is higher than the 970 babies born across 128 different species in 2023, which the team recently claimed was the nation’s highest tally of birth and nestlings in the previous ten years.  ,
According to Dr. Cheng Wen-Haur, Deputy CEO and Chief Life Sciences Officer of Mandai Wildlife Group,” we reinforce our commitment to maintaining responsible communities in our gardens and contributing to long-term protection work.”
34 of the species recorded in 2024 are currently listed as threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Types, according to a press release from the organization.  ,
These include threatened species like the woylie and endangered types like the large opossum and the West Indian manatee.  ,
23 of the 143 species that were properly bred last year are included in international breeding initiatives like the Ex-situ Programme of the Western Association of Zoos and Aquaria.
According to the release, these initiatives aim to support conservation efforts in the wild while keeping physically healthy and sustainable populations under people care.  ,
