Director-General of Health Kenneth Mak to chair new Communicable Diseases Agency

Director-General of Health Kenneth Mak has been appointed as the new Communicable Diseases Agency ( CDA )’s inaugural board. &nbsp,

A new legislative table, the CDA, will be established on April 1 to act as Singapore’s first-line agency for the prevention of infectious diseases. &nbsp,

It will fall under the control of the Ministry of Health ( MOH), bringing together the functions of the Health Promotion Board ( HPB), National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), and MOH.

Professor Mak, the government’s chief medical advisor, is in charge of both the clinical and public health services providing for Singaporeans, and he was at the forefront of the country’s public health response to COVID-19, according to MOH in a press release on Monday ( Mar 24 ).

In the Singaporean healthcare industry, Professor Mak also holds other important roles. He serves as Singapore’s Consortium for Clinical Research and Innovation’s assistant president. &nbsp,

Additionally, he serves on the boards of several important medical organizations, including the National University Health System, MOH Holdings, and the National Medical Research Council.

Professor Mak may assist in laying out the strategic direction of CDA and coordinate national policies and activities for communicable diseases across the healthcare industry, according to MOH. &nbsp,

He may also serve as the agency’s direct officer as they pursue MOH’s policy objectives to improve Singapore’s readiness for and response to upcoming pandemics and problems in public health.

Ho Teck Hua, president of Nanyang Technological University, Professor Joe Sim, party CEO of the National Healthcare Group, and Ervin Yeo, CEO of CapitaLand Investment, make up the annual committee of the CDA.

Gerard Koh, Lin Diaan Yi, Mohd Nazry Mokhtar, Asok Kurup, Asok Kurup, Group People Experience and Sustainability at Singtel, and Mohd Nazry Mokhtar, an infectious disease doctor, have also been appointed. &nbsp,

The last three members of the board are Ms. Ong Ai Hua, deputy secretary ( family andamp; society ) for the Ministry of Social and Family Development, City Developments Limited group chief financial officer Yiong Yim Ming, and Singapore’s Competition & Consumer Commission of Singapore chairman Max Loh Khum Whai.

In addition to care, the committee members of CDA have experience in a wide range of fields, according to MOH.

These include: artificial intelligence, data technology, contacts, human resources, organizational development, funding, inspection, and risk control.

The panel will guide CDA in its effort to safeguard Singapore from potential infectious disease risks and build on Singapore’s solid foundation in infectious disease control, according to the health department. &nbsp,
