NewJeans announces hiatus after setback in court battle

South Korean K-pop group NewJeans have announced they are taking a break from all activities, after a court ruled against them in their ongoing dispute with their record label Ador.

After releasing their new song Trap Stop, the five-piece, who have attempted to rebrand themselves as NJZ, announced during a show at ComplexCon Hong Kong on Sunday that” this will be our last performance for a while.”

The team was prohibited from organizing their own looks, producing music, or signing advertising contracts during their dispute with Ardor by the court’s decision on Friday.

After accusing them of cruelty, NewJeans are attempting to cut ties with Ador and have pledged to challenge the judge’s decision.

The team’s second open appearance since the judge’s ruling was held on Sunday night at the Hong Kong music.

The five people Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Heyin took turns reading a letter to their followers in both English and Korean after their debut music.

” This step means a lot to us and every single one of you who gives us strength simply by being here,” Hanni and Dani said.

” This might be our past performance in a while, but it’s really hard for us to say that.” We’ve decided to stop all of our actions for the time being out of appreciation for the judge’s decision.

They continued,” We believe this is something we need to do at this time, but it wasn’t an easy decision.”

The team added that the choice was” about protecting ourselves so that we can come up even stronger.”

We had to talk up to defend the principles that we hold dear, and we don’t dread doing so, they continued.

We firmly believe that upholding our integrity, our freedoms, and everything else we care about is something we had to complete, and that conviction may never change.

At Hong Kong’s largest survive music place, the AsiaWorld Expo Arena, where the hour-long concert was played in front of more than 11, 000 spectators.

The band appeared to be defying the decision from last week by performing under the name NJZ.

Ador expressed regret over the people ‘ choice to continue with a achievement under a name other than NewJeans in a statement released on Monday, despite the court order and their coercive news of a suspension of activities.

According to them,” Ador is totally committed to supporting NewJeans, in accordance with the terms of our legally binding special deal.” As soon as possible, we’re hoping to talk about the future with the designers.

Since August 2024, the party has gone public with a number of grievances against the label, including that it had purposefully undermined their jobs.

Hanni also alleged that she suffered workplace harassment while working with Ador.

The Seoul court ruled that NewJeans ‘ claims did not” sufficiently demonstrate that Ador violated their significant duty as part of their contract,” adding that the music label had upheld “most of its duty including payment.”

The group will have trouble rebranding under its new title, NJZ, without facing serious financial fines for breach of contract due to the court’s decision. This means it will have to deal with this.

Due to their lively fusion of 1990s R&amp, B, and sugar-coated pop music, NewJeans are regarded as one of the brightest new K-Pop songs.

They were the eighth-best-selling group in the world in 2023. At the MTV Awards, they were nominated for best team last year.
