South Korea court reinstates PM Han Duck-soo as acting president

The Supreme Court of South Korea has reinstated Han Duck-soo as the nation’s standing leader, rejecting his impeachment.

When Yoon Suk Yeol was suspended from his duties and impeached by parliament after attempting to declare martial law, Han took over as acting president in December.

Before legislators voted to remove Han from office, he simply lasted two weeks. Vice-president Choi Sang-mok has dominated South Korea since next.

Since Yoon’s botched attempt to impose martial laws, South Korea has been roiled by social conflict.

Soon after taking on the role of acting president, Han halted the visit of new courts to the constitutional court, which the opposition hoped would increase Yoon’s chances of being impeached.

As a result, they voted to impeach Han.

However, on Monday, the courts upheld the impeachment’s 7-to-1 ruling.

After the announcement of the ruling, Han thanked the Constitutional Court for its smart decision. ” I will work to restore order in the authorities.”

South Korea is still waiting for a different court’s impending decision regarding President Yoon’s prosecution.

Yoon was impeached by the legislature and given a 14-day holiday, but the Constitutional Court may just ratify his impeachment. Yoon may return to his responsibilities as soon as possible if the court overturns the prosecution.

Although the verdict’s judge date has not yet been determined, Yoon’s supporters and opponents have been staging escalating demonstrations in Seoul over the weekend, with hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets of the country’s capital.
