The primary and most direct route connects Bangkok to the southern area, including the beach city of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan territory, via Rama 2 Road. Officials from the authorities acknowledge that Rama 2 congestion hurts tourism because local and foreign tourists frequently choose to travel to different locations to avoid traffic jams.

Although the development of an road above the street from Bangkok to Samut Sakhon is intended to shorten travel times, delays in the construction and the regular mishaps and road closures have added yet more congestion, especially on weekends and much public holidays.

Prior Rama 2 Street building incidents have left people dead. One of the injuries occurred on November 29 of last year when a rope broke, leaving six people dead and eight injured. A rope broke, killing a contractor, and causing the helicopter’s lifting basket to slide, in a second accident that occurred on January 18, 2014. A contractor was killed by a falling cement slab in May 2023.
