Pattani blast injures 9 police on teacher-protection duty

PATTANI — A roadside bomb attack injured nine police officials on teacher-protection work in Mae Lan city of this southern border state on Friday night.

The fire occurred on a nearby street between community Moo 1 and community Moo 2 in tambon Muang Tia, said Pol Capt Nathee Meesuksri of Mae Lan place. The incident was reported around 8.50am.

Officers rushed to the scene and found the nine wounded soldiers.

One agent, Pol Cpl Sahasawat Phonsang, sustained an injury to his proper eye and was taken to Pattani Hospital. Some soldiers suffered shrapnel wounds while others experienced stomach problems. All were taken to Mae Lan Hospital.

The picture was cordoned off for inspection.

Authorities suspected the assault may be connected to the continuing unrest in the strong South.

On March 8, suspected militants detonated weapons and opened fire at the Sungai Kolok city workplace in Narathiwat territory, killing two army volunteers and injuring 14 different individuals. The attackers even detonated bombs beside a railroad track and outside a store. &nbsp,
