Deep Dive Podcast – Changes to JC admission not meant to increase competition or stress: Chan Chun Sing

Here’s an extract from the discussion: &nbsp,

I was just speaking to a mom ( and ) she says:” Okay, I don’t want to stress my kid and we’ll see how it goes”. And next her boy’s weighted evaluation comes up. She’s in Primary Four and she fails her Chinese. And then ( the mom ) goes into a panic mode.

I would go into a panic mode also. I’m certain you had to, if your child came up and didn’t do so well in anything. So the truth of it is that we do have an idea that our children need to do well enough so that they can move on, had good work, sometimes even be a professor or a secretary. That’s the model. &nbsp,

But what is effectively enough?

Chan Chun Sing, Education Minister: &nbsp,
I think also enough is if the child has tried his or her best. I think that’s good and also much. &nbsp, But our concern is that we keep making our kids live in someone else’s photograph… Maybe we are caught in this considering:” Why is my children not measuring up to someone else”?
