India says ‘no commitments’ to tariff cuts after Trump claims

NEW DELHI: &nbsp, India says it has not committed to slashing import duties on US materials, days after President Donald Trump announced that New Delhi had agreed to” cut their taxes far down”.

Just days into his second term, Trump has upended international business, targeting friends and foes everywhere.

He has even blamed all trading companions of “unfair” procedures, and has announced mutual levies on some countries, including India, to start from next month.

Trump previously once railed at India’s “massive taxes” next year.

” You can’t market whatever into India, it is almost restrictive”, Trump said.

” They have agreed, by the way, they want to reduce their taxes far down presently because someone is finally exposing them for what they have done”, he added.

But the Indian government told a parliamentary panel that” no commitments had been made to the US on the issue”, a report in The Times of India newspaper said on Tuesday ( Mar 11 ).

The state “has sought moment until September to address the issue that is being constantly flagged by the National leader”, it added.
