Singapore to set up safety commission in 2026 for victims of online harms

SINGAPORE: A new government bureau supporting victims of virtual damages will be set up in the second quarter of 2026.

One of the features of the Online Safety Commission will be to support for victims if they demand perpetrators info for purposes such as to begin legal proceedings.

This information will go beyond the suspect’s Internet address to potentially contain personal identification.

Speaking on the Ministry of Digital Development and Information’s ( MDDI) spending plans for the year, &nbsp, Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo said on Friday ( Mar 7 ) that a&nbsp, proposed law- the&nbsp, Online Safety ( Relief &amp, Accountability ) Bill -&nbsp, will be introduced later this year&nbsp, to establish the Online Safety Commission ( OSC ).

The new agency will help the patients to obtain “timely support” if they encounter website damages, she said in congress.

Survivors will be able to ask the OSC to issue a path to the system to get down the unpleasant content. The system has also replace existing similar files on the platform”, Mrs Teo added.

” The new legislation will even help sufferers hold their perpetrators accountable. If they want to sue the culprits, they may ask the OSC to clear the system to provide information about the offenders”.

Ideas for the company were first announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong next year.
