South Korea’s impeached President Yoon released from prison after court cancels arrest warrant

SEOUL: South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was released from detention on Friday ( Mar 7 ) after a court accepted his request to cancel his arrest warrant. &nbsp,

Yoon filed the request with the Seoul Central District Court last month, said the Yonhap media company, adding that the lawmaker claimed his prosecution over the Dec 3 military law pronouncement was illegal. &nbsp,

” South Korea’s rule of law is still alive”, Yoon’s constitutional lawyers said, according to journalist YTN.

Yoon’s doctors had argued the subpoena issued on Jan 19 that has kept him in confinement was illegitimate because the demand filed by prosecution was randomly flawed.

Yonhap said the decision People’s Power Party welcomed the withdrawal of Yoon’s arrest warrant. &nbsp,

The 64-year-old is expected to take part in his prosecution while out of confinement.
