
As torrential storms pounded the Indian capital and its neighboring satellite towns, causing numerous streams to flow, hundreds of people were evacuated from flooded neighborhoods around Jakarta on Tuesday ( Mar 4).
No casualties were immediately identified as a result of the most recent flood, but parts of the city, which are home to about 11 million people, came to a halt as entire neighborhoods were submerged in muddy water.
Heavy rains started pouring in on Monday, bringing some flood to Jakarta and the local places of Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang.
After the rain caused the Ciliwung river to overflow, causing 1, 446 people from 224 houses in one village alone, water was seen metres high in areas of east and south Jakarta on Tuesday, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency ( BNPB).
