Former Malaysia PM Ismail Sabri named suspect in corruption probe, to be questioned on Mar 5

Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the former prime minister of Malaysia, has been named a suspect in an ongoing corruption investigation involving RM700 million ( US$ 157 million ) in government funds, and he will be interrogated on Wednesday ( Mar 5 ) in a press conference.

At a press conference on Monday ( Mar 3 ) on Monday, Azam Baki, the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ( MACC), confirmed this.

Ismail Sabri served as Malaysia’s premier secretary from August 2021 to November 2022, and he is already the member of Parliament for the Bera district in Pahang.

According to Azam, the RM700 million was reportedly spent as part of his president’s” Keluarga Malaysia” special plan, as The Edge Malaysia reported. &nbsp,

He said to reporters:” In this issue, I may state that he is a suspect” a day after his firm confirmed that Ismail Sabri had disclosed his prosperity as part of the analysis.

At the press event, officials displayed 16kg of golden bars for almost RM7 million that had been seized, along with virtually RM170 million in cash in numerous currencies. &nbsp,

The seized goods and goods were taken from three places, including a” safe house” in the Klang Valley, according to local media reports on Sunday.

According to Azam, the seized money included international currencies like the Thai ringgit, Saudi riyal, British pound, Asian won, euros, Swiss franc, and Chinese yuan, as reported by the New Straits Times. &nbsp,

Ismail’s formal request for questioning on February 19 was first made after he formally submitted a wealth declaration, as required by Section 36 ( 1 ) of the MACC Act. &nbsp,

The research is being conducted in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Revenues of Unlawful Activities Act of 2001 and the MACC Act of 2009.
