Taiwan condemns China for ‘shooting’ drills off its coast

China’s defense ministry did not respond to a request for comment, and there was no immediate validation from that country that it was conducting fresh training in Taiwan.

China’s another new military action in the region, such as that off Australia’s beach, are “proof that China is the only, and the greatest, danger to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific”, Taiwan’s department said.

China has not renounced the use of pressure to provide Taiwan under its principle, and has denounced both President Lai Ching-te, who took office last month, as a” separatist”, and the United States for its support for Taiwan.

Lai’s business condemned the maneuvers, but said the authorities had a “full knowledge” of the condition and people may rest assured.

” Maintaining local peace and stability is the shared responsibility of both sides of the Taiwan Strait,” Lai’s director Karen Kuo said in a statement.

Earlier on Wednesday, China’s standard Xinhua news agency said the ruling Communist Party’s third ranked head, Wang Huning, had called this week for greater energy in the cause of Taiwanese “reunification”.

China has “firmly understanding the right to occupy and take the initiative in cross-strait relationships,” Wang was quoted as saying at a work-related annual meeting in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s authorities rejects Beijing’s sovereignty claims, saying just the island’s people may choose their future.
