
To grant free internet access to those who are registered with the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) has been signed.
The MoU was signed between the ministry, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission ( NBTC ), and Bangkok Tellink, a mobile phone service provider, according to Minister Varawut Silpa-archa from yesterday.
According to Mr. Varawut, the online service is intended to give people with disabilities opportunities to learn from online teaching and boost themselves.
From February 1 through July 31, the minister announced that at least 1.1 million handicapped people global will be able to get unrestricted free computer at a minimum speed of 20 Mbps.
Holders of state-issued disabled cards, which were also issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities ( DoEPD), are eligible for free access to the internet.
They also may have a disability or impairments such as hearing or visual impairment, physical disability, emotional problem, intellectual disability, learning disability and dementia.
The right to use completely online, which requires pre-registration, is not applicable.
According to the minister, those who are ready may use their existing mobile phone numbers to obtain a new computer SIM cards.
The NBTC is in charge of absorbing the regular price of 107 baht per person for online use, while the DoEPD is in charge of providing the repository of those available.
