85-year-old man to be charged over offensive Facebook posts about Islam

SINGAPORE: An&nbsp, 85-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday ( Feb 26 ) over Facebook posts that&nbsp, contained offensive remarks about Islam, the police said on Tuesday.

The gentleman posted pictures of offensive Facebook posts from five years ago on April 21, 2021, on Instagram. &nbsp, The officers received information about the content on Jun 29 and Jun 30, 2021.

The gentleman left Singapore in January 2022, according to the police, and just made his way back to the country in October 2024.

He will face charges of purposefully harming cultural feelings. The crime carries a prison expression of up to three years, a great, or both.

The officers “take a critical view of acts that may harm racial and religious cooperation in Singapore,” according to the police.

” Anyone who makes comment or works in a manner that can engender hostility and animosity between the various tribes or religious parties in Singapore will be dealt with firmly,” they continued.
