Ex-PM and Privy Council head Thanin dies at 97

Thanin Kraivixien, Thailand’s 14th prime minister and a original Privy Council leader, passed away on Sunday at age 97.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her apologies over the departure of one of the country’s most respected prime ministers and “one of the most important persons in Thai world” on her Instagram website at 10.27pm on Sunday.

A queen sponsored death bathing ceremony will take place on Tuesday at Wat Benchamabophit’s Bannarasaphak Pavilion.

Born on April 5, 1927, in Bangkok, Thanin was married to Khunying Karen Kraivixien ( Karen Anderson ), and they had five children. He received his education at the Suankularb Wittayalai School in Suankularb, and he began studying at the London School of Economics and Political Science ( LSE ) in 1948. In 1953, he completed a Table program at Gray’s Inn.

Thanin served in a number of criminal capacities, including as chief judge at the Supreme Court and Chiang Mai Court. His employment background was again in Thailand. He also provided host lectures at Chulalongkorn and Thammasat institutions.

On Oct 8, 1976, Thanin, who was then a Supreme Court judge, was appointed Thailand’s 14th excellent minister following the Oct 6, 1976 revolution led by Adm Sangad Chaloryu, which toppled MR Seni Pramoj as elite.

Till October 20, 1977, Thanin remained in office. On Dec 15 that time, he was named a privy council, a article he held until Dec 6, 2016. During his time on the royal government, he occupied a seat on the Council of State’s judicial and legislative commission, among other important jobs.

Thanin was appointed Privy Council chairman after King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great passed away on October 13, 2016.
